National Citizen Service Opportunity

The Shaw Trust Group
We have been selected by the NCS Trust to bid for the National Citizens Service in the following areas:
  • East Midlands
  • West Midlands
  • York and Humber
We would like to hear from local youth organisations who are interested in working with us and who are able to provide a locally focused service, whose community links, local knowledge and networks would be able to recruit, engage and deliver to young people who would not normally engage with this programme.

You will need to have an understanding of NCS, from recruitment through to social action phases, though not necessarily experience of it, but have the capacity and capability to deliver this on a local basis.
In addition, we are also looking for local youth organisations who might consider delivering specialist activities to parts of the programme, helping support young people through the discovery and social action phases.

If you would like to work with us on the National Citizens Service, please complete the expression of interest form at the link below:

National Citizen Service - Opportunity

About the National Citizens Service (NCS)

NCS is a 3-4 week experience that helps build young people’s confidence and self-belief so that they can take on anything in life.

Live away from home, develop skills and meet amazing people. Young people embark on exhilarating challenges, make their mark and build skills for work and life.

On phase one, it's time to challenge yourself! Living with your team at an outdoor activity centre, you'll get to know some amazing people and enjoy some quality time away from home, taking part in activities such as sailing, kayaking, raft-building, high ropes and much more. You'll find yourself in a group of 12-15 incredible people you've never met before – people who will change your life and whose lives you'll change.
Summer: 4 nights & 5 days residential  / Spring or Autumn: 3 nights & 4 days residential

Now's your chance to discover something new! You'll be reunited with your group in a uni-style environment where you’ll develop life skills like confidence, leadership and communication to boost your CV or UCAS personal statement. Meet local businesses, organisations and charities and learn about the issues they face. Get to work as a team, learning entrepreneurial, leadership and communications skills. Even better – you might discover something new about yourself.

Summer: 4 nights & 5 days local residential / Spring or Autumn: 2 days local non-residential

Social Action

It's time to make your mark! This is where your NCS experience all comes together. All the fun and inspiration from the first two phase’s means you're ready to step up and deliver your very own social action project.
Work with your team to do something great to support your local community, raise money or awareness for a good cause, volunteer your time or regenerate public spaces – whatever you can do to make a difference. Plan; fundraise; make a difference!

This is your chance to make a difference, have some amazing stories to tell, and be part of something you'll never forget!

Summer: 2 weeks (week days) / Spring or Autumn: Part-time weekends depending duration of the project.

Celebrate all you’ve achieved on NCS with your family and new friends and get access to unique opportunities to continue volunteering and stay connected to each other and their local community.
