Shaw Trust Scotland is a registered charity helping Scotland’s citizens to create brighter futures through the delivery of a range of employment, learning and skills services. We have worked in Scotland for over 15 years and have delivery bases in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Falkirk and Perth.
Employment services in Scotland
Shaw Trust delivers the Department of Work and Pensions’ specialist disability employment programme - Work Choice
- across Scotland. We work with a range of partner organisations to help disabled people get the experience and skills they need to find and stay in work through Work Choice. We also work with employers, enabling them to support their disabled employees to remain in work. Work Choice is co-financed through the European Social Fund.
Shaw Trust Scotland also works with partners to deliver the Department for Work and Pensions’ Specialist Employability Support (SES)
service across Scotland. SES helps disabled people with complex needs gain the skills they need to live independent lives and move into employment. SES is co-financed through the European Social Fund.
Shaw Trust delivers Work First Scotland (WFS),
a voluntary, Scottish Government supported programme for people who, due to their disability, may find it difficult to find or stay in work.
A Wellbeing Works
campus has been introduced, which will join up the employment support delivered by Shaw Trust, through the Scottish Government’s Work First Scotland programme, with wellbeing and health support services provided by NHS Lothian, Edinburgh College and range of local and community organisations. This integrated approach operates on the principle that people in meaningful employment have better health and wellbeing than those without.
Shaw Trust Scotland is committed to working innovatively with our partners and commissioners. We recently have worked with HMP Low Moss
to deliver a successful pilot project helping prisoners with health problems and disabilities move into work upon release. 100% of participants moved into employment as a result of the pilot.
Our Shaw Trust Volunteers
scheme also provides additional support to our customers across Scotland.
Social Enterprises in Scotland
Shaw Trust Scotland is committed to investing in and developing local social enterprises that offer work experience and employment opportunities to people from local communities.
Shaw Trust jointly runs Westbank Enterprises in Perth with Perth and Kinross Council. At Westbank we give local people work experience in a horticultural environment. This includes work placements and volunteering opportunities in horticulture and grounds maintenance, which are used as a stepping stone into more permanent employment. The plants grown are used by the local authority in its parks and other community areas.
