Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid training for your Organisation

Would you know how to support some-one with a Mental Health issue or in a Crisis?

This 2 day course provides invaluable tools and resources to help and support people with mental ill health or somebody in Crisis.

Mental Health First Aid is just as important as Physical First Aid. We all have Mental Health and it’s a huge part of our overall Health, so we need to look after it.

We have all heard the statistics that 1 in 4 people have signs or symptoms of Mental Ill Health, but potentially this could be more, as many people are untreated or unrecognised.

There is still Stigma and Discrimination around people with Mental Ill Health, so many people do not talk about their issues or experiences that they encounter of Mental Ill Health. As a Mental Health First Aider you are taught how to recognise signs and symptoms, be able to talk to somebody, provide the right support and information as well as understanding the correct professional health and wellbeing support to signpost to.

Is this course right for you?

This course is an invaluable course to anybody that works with others. It can be used within the working environment, with colleagues, customers, family members, members of the public and also on yourself.

Should you take this course?

The short answer to this question is YES!

Everyone should take this course, so that you can gain a better understanding of Common Mental Health illnesses, signs and symptoms of mental illness, reduces the stigma and discrimination and also prevent Mental Illnesses from becoming worse.

You do not become a Mental Health Professional or have the ability to diagnose somebody’s Mental Health, however as a Mental Health first Aider, you can provide the initial support in a calm and confident manner. The course also gives you tools to look after your own wellbeing!

We can deliver this training to a minimum of 8 people and a maximum of 16.

Testimonials from delegates that have attended the course:

“We have trained up 30 of our managers and supervisors at COOK as mental health first aiders over the past 6 months, and we’re delighted by the positive feedback and the clear value of the course already.  The course gives participants the practical techniques and the confidence to approach and handle mental ill health, as well as great resources for where to ‘go’ when professional help is needed.  Sam is an excellent facilitator, who brings her own personal and professional experience together.  I’d recommend this course to anyone, for work and beyond.”

“I found MHFA training a really beneficial experience. As a Support Manager, supporting our participants with their mental health needs is an everyday occurrence. Since the training, I have had a new found confidence to do this. In particular, I found myself able to talk openly and confidently with those facing suicidal feelings, and work with them to access the best help for them. I honestly cannot recommend this training more!’

“I personally found the course to be a good mix of enjoyment and frank discussion of the serious side to mental health. The big thing I took away from MHFA was ALGEE which has provided me with an easy-to-remember and structured way to approach situations I would have otherwise found incredibly challenging.”

“The course raised my awareness of Mental Health issues.  As a Team Leader I found it a really useful tool to raise my understanding of signs and symptoms which I can, should the occasion arise, use to care for my team members. This is especially relevant considering the types of calls we make/receive.  I personally would recommend that all TL’s and Managers attend the course as part of Employee Care Training”

“I wanted to give you an email just to thank you for the MHFA course. The knowledge I have taken away from this has been incredible. The knowledge and understanding you had which you passed on to us was amazing. It has made me want to explore this further and help promote MHFA. This has been the best course I have been on so far. Once again thank you.”
